Activity 6 Slideshare Presentation

This week I choose to draft the actual project that I would have the students do. We are working on digital storytelling, and we were to create an assignment for our students to do. I am teaching first grade, so I choose to have my students work on a digital storytelling project for our space unit. Here is what I came up with. Space Mission

This week I used slideshare as opposed to prezi because I think my first grade students would have an easier time working with the powerpoint than with a prezi presentation. The powerpoint went as I had thought it would, since I am pretty familiar with powerpoint already. I did find that putting together the whole powerpoint took much longer than I had assumed, and I already see how this will affect how I would work on it in the classroom. I was thinking this was something the students could do relatively quickly, but seeing how much extra time it took to look up all the information, find pictures, clip art, and sounds, I realize that this will be a project that I will be working with my students on for a long time. I know how powerpoint works, and I realize that it will take some time for my students to get comfortable with it.

I did have a few setbacks when I was looking for clip art and sounds. These features were something I knew was available to me in powerpoint, but I was having a hard time locating them. I was also having some issues with the logistics of the presentation, once again knowing that sound files could be hidden while presented, and things could move along at a pace I choose, instead of having to click a mouse to advance the slides. I am still working on some more advanced options of how to move pictures, slides, etc, but for the most part I have it down. I am also looking to find videos, and maybe import some recorded sound clips into my computer so I can load those to the powerpoint as well. I think reading some of the information would be a good way for my students to share information. Even after asking for some help with the sound, I have not found out how to do it. I really just ran out of time, but this is something I am going to continue to work on for the final presentation. I am also working to see if there is another program I could upload my powerpoint on that will play the videos in the presentation. Does anyone know of a website like this? So there are still a few things to work out.

Overall I found this really set me up nicely for the final presentation, and I hope that this is something I could really implement in some way in my first grade classroom.
